We all know the importance of signs. If it weren’t for the signs that govern our roads, we would be lost. This also rings true in our spiritual life … if the Lord did not guide us through the signs, we would be reeling and lost.

The Holy Spirit helps us interpret the signs that GOD gives us from time to time to make us aware of the progress we are making.

While I have listed 10 signs that GOD gave to Joshua and the Israelites on their journey to the promised land, you may find most of them or some of them depending on how GOD is leading you, but I hope I have covered all of the possible signals. Because this is the largest portion of scripture where we see so many signs of GOD! Amen.

In the Book of Joshua, we see GOD’s people making this long journey to the promised land. Moses is dead and Joshua has to take his place and lead the Israelites to the land flowing with milk and honey. As puzzling as it may seem to Joshua, GOD assures him that he would be with him just as he was with Moses. Josué thus encouraged is ready to take on the enormous task.

This journey is very symbolic of our spiritual journey because it is characterized by fear, uncertainty, opposition, but well complemented by divine strength, favor and help. Amen.

So this brings us to the first sign.

• Sign # 1: GOD speaks to us and prepares our hearts for success. It gives us hope that he will be with us on our journey and help us along the way. Amen.

So we read in verse 7,

Josué {1: 7} Just be strong and very brave

And later in verse 8:

Joshua {1: 8}:

This book of the law will not leave your mouth; but you will meditate on it day and night, so that you take care to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will prosper your way, and you will be successful.

In verse 11, we hear Joshua speak prophetically to the people that they would cross the Jordan in 3 days.

Joshua {1:11}:

“Prepare provisions, because in three days you will cross this Jordan to enter and possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.”

How did you know they would be leaving in 3 days? It came from the Lord and He knew it! Amen.

Child of GOD, the Lord will use His prophets to speak an inspired Word through the Spirit of GOD in your situation. This could be a divine encounter with an angel of GOD or a message from a talented prophet. Many of these cases are evident throughout the Bible, for example, when the angel Gabriel approaches Mary and announces the good news! Even today, GOD sends his angels to reveal his plan and the time to the devotees. GOD always reaffirms Himself through His chosen instruments!

We thus arrive at:

• Sign # 2: He reveals his will through an inspired word.

Joshua then sends 2 spies to check the land. The two spies return after 3 days and set out to cross the Jordan the next day.

Joshua {2:22}:

And they went and came to the mountain, and stayed there three days, until the pursuers returned and the pursuers searched for them all the way, but they did not find them.

Joshua {3: 1}:

And Josué got up very early in the morning; and they left Shittim, and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and stayed there before they passed.

Why is this little detail that you raised in 3 days important or significant? Because it sends us a message that GOD was really working behind the scenes – arranging their circumstances so that His Word would be fulfilled, that is, to allow them to cross the Jordan in 3 days! This is a very significant event because it shows the faithfulness of GOD, that He is in control. Amen.

So we have

• Signal No. 3: He will make his inspired word come true.

This is exactly what I mean by a sign. And they are very easy to miss if one does not search with a thoughtful heart. We need to be very aware within our hearts that GOD has indeed done what might have seemed impossible at first. We have to be sensitive to what the Lord does because it is in all these little miracles that GOD can reveal His power and glory to us and we know that we serve an ALMIGHTY GOD.

• Sign # 4: He sends the right people into your life to help you

Joshua {1:16} And they answered Joshua, saying, Whatever you command us, we will do, and wherever you send us, we will go.

GOD raises up people to help us in our time of need. He makes all things work together for our good.

• Sign # 5: Put the fear of the Lord in the heart of the enemy and the enemy will know that they will fall. In some cases, GOD even made the enemy confess that he will do what he promised. For example, Saul spoke to David confessing that GOD had given him the victory (1 Samuel 26:25).

So when the spies meet Rahab, what does he have to say to them? That the entire enemy nation was melting in fear because the Lord GOD had given them the land.

Joshua {2: 9}:

And she said to the men: I know that the Lord has given you the land, and that your terror has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainting because of you.

• Sign # 6: He will magnify and exalt you in the sight of all. He will make his face shine on you and have mercy on you. The people you lead will bear witness to your virtue for Christ’s sake and will follow you decisively.

Joshua {3: 7}:

And the LORD said to Joshua: Today I will begin to magnify you in the eyes of all Israel, so that they may know that, as I was with Moses, I will be with you.

• Signature # 7: He will do the impossible and will leave a memorial to remind you of His greatness.

In the case of the Israelites, the Lord made the waters of the Jordan River stand still and remain as a heap.

Joshua {3:13}:

And it will come to pass that as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD, the LORD of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan will be cut off. from the waters that descend from above; and they will be on a heap.

You will have before you a lasting memorial ALWAYS of His great power in action and you will know without a doubt that this could NOT have happened without the Lord. It is a good idea to write these events down when you know without a doubt that the Lord has moved in your life. Amen!

Joshua {4: 22-24}:

And he spoke to the children of Israel, saying: When your children ask their parents in the future, saying: What do these stones mean? {4:22} Then you shall tell your children, saying: Israel passed through this Jordan on dry land. {4:23} For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until you passed over, as the LORD your God did with the Red Sea, which dried up before us, until we passed: {4:24} so that all the peoples of the earth may know the mighty hand of the Lord, so that you may fear the Lord your God forever.

• Sign # 8: He will cleanse and sanctify you to prepare you to enter the blessing. Amen. This reveals the holy nature of GOD.

The Israelites had to be circumcised to prepare to enter the Holy Land.

Joshua {5: 2}:

At that time the LORD said to Joshua, Make yourself sharp knives and circumcise the children of Israel the second time.

• Sign # 9: He will assure you of His Presence and unfailing love to increase your faith and confidence in the midst of war.

As the Israelites prepared for battle, GOD sent an angel to guide them further and lead them on the path to victory!

This shows GOD’s loving heart and His perfect understanding of our weaknesses. When we are weak, then He is strong! Amen.

GOD had already caused great fear to fall on his enemies so much that no one was allowed to enter or leave the city of Jericho. The Israelites knew it, but GOD still knew that their fears were real to them. So he sent his angel to tell them about the technique he had planned for their victory. And what a wonderful technique! One that would bring him ultimate glory! They would only have to circle the city walls several times over seven days and when the prolonged blast of the trumpet sounded, the wall would collapse on its own! Hallelujah!

So there would not be a single doubt in their mind that GOD was before them. Amen.

GOD loves us very much, doesn’t He?

• Sign # 10: He causes his people to raise a victory cry and glorify him!

Joshua {6: 5}:

And it will happen that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when they hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people will shout with great joy; and the wall of the city will collapse, and the people will go up each one straight ahead of him.

It is the heart of GOD to lead us and guide us and finally give us victory.

The Christian walk becomes easier when we learn to interpret the signs that GOD shows us. These little signs are built into the journey along the way so that one does not get tired and discouraged.

The signs become more and more apparent to us as we become aware of it in our hearts and become aware of its ways. When the Pharisees asked Jesus for a sign, he asked them to have a conscience in their hearts.

The demand for a sign

The Pharisees and Sadducees approached Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.

He replied: “When evening comes, you say:” There will be good weather, because the sky is red, “and in the morning,” Today there will be a storm, because the sky is red and cloudy. “You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but You cannot interpret the signs of the times.

Why does Jesus rebuke them for not being able to interpret the signs? Because ALL creation KNOWS its Creator and there is no excuse.

Novels {1: 20}:

“Because since the creation of the world, the invisible qualities of God, his eternal power and his divine nature, have been clearly seen, to be understood of what has been done, so that people have no excuse. “

Signs help us maintain the momentum we build up with our obedience because when we see intermediate results, there is a shift from believing to KNOWING! You know that your efforts are paying off and that your patience and perseverance are paying off. It is like cold water to a weary soul! By being encouraged in this way, you build up anticipation and expectation that unleashes more and more power in your situation until a perceptible change occurs and the miracle manifests! Amen. Glory to Jesus!

GOD always works through us. So we must surrender to Him and cooperate with Him as we learn to interpret His signs so that we can enter the promised land. Amen.
