February 28 Full Moon: Hypocritical, Exaggerated and Dangerous?

Doesn’t the lunar cycle fly when you’re having fun? It seems that just a few days ago I was writing about the New Moon on Valentine’s Day, which ushered in the Year of the Tiger.

The Full Moon is now over us, as you will notice if you look up at the night sky. The white disk is forming rapidly and on February 28 at 4.38 pm GMT the Full Moon will be exact. That’s 11.38 a.m. in New York, 8.38 a.m. in Los Angeles, 6.38 p.m. in Athens, 10.08 p.m. in Mumbai.

As a general rule, I consider full moons less fortunate than new moons. There can be a lot of stress, as well as a certain feeling that some of the things around us have passed their expiration date.

Although one must remember that Full Moons are frequent events that occur once a month. So there are limits to how bad they can be and we certainly shouldn’t be obsessed with them.

As for the Full Moon on February 28, it is in the tenth degree of Virgo. To be precise, the Sun is 9 degrees 59 minutes in Pisces and the Moon is 9 degrees 59 minutes in Virgo.

When you have a Pisces-Virgo full moon, there is often a dichotomy between chaos and order. We do our best to order our lives and create an enjoyable routine for ourselves, but circumstances beyond our control threaten to sweep away our hard work.

There is also the danger of massive hypocrisy. People who claim to have their lives in order, who condemn other people’s carelessness, may be hiding a guilty secret. Then we get the symbol of a house that is immaculate, with clean white carpets, that is built on a rotting, stinky sewer, that is about to explode.

However, what is really special about this Full Moon is the position of Jupiter. At the time of the Full Moon it is 9 degrees 48 minutes in Pisces, very close to the position of the Sun, and almost exactly 180 degrees from the Moon. So one might expect this Full Moon to have an influence that is closely related to the symbolism of Jupiter. And this influence is likely to last fifteen days, until the New Moon on March 15.

In general, I feel that some of the negative characteristics of Jupiter will manifest. Exaggeration, exaggeration, being too defensive about one’s political and religious opinions. And because the Moon is in Virgo, worrying about small details could lead people to round the curve.

On a more mundane level, we must be careful about accidents that are caused by overloading of mechanical systems. So if we use something beyond its specs, we shouldn’t be surprised if there’s a big bang.

In addition, there is a greater possibility of violence, because the Full Moon will encourage people to take drastic measures for the sake of their beliefs.

However, we are only talking about possibilities, and as I have already said, Full Moons are frequent events, which for most of us are uneventful.
