My Zippo Black Ice lighter is virtually indestructible. I take it everywhere! Fishing trips, camping trips, you name it! I have dropped this on the cement, to leave only a small mark. I even dropped it in a puddle while washing my car, the brief submersion didn’t stop it from turning on. When it’s rainy or windy, I can still turn on with no problem. This shows why Zippo lighters are so popular with tobacco enthusiasts everywhere.

The design of the classic windproof lighter is the reason behind my opinion above. These lighters have a metal outer shell with a hinged top. Within this are all the internal workings of the lighter, i.e. flint, wick, caster, etc. There is an inner metal box that is open at the bottom where the lighter filler is located, called rayon fiber filler, which absorbs the lighter fluid and feeds the wick. How could I forget the windshield chimney? This allows the flame to work efficiently without going out while outdoors.

This is the lighter you want if you love the outdoors like I do. They also work great for starting a campfire. They don’t get hot like a butane lighter and don’t require you to hold your thumb down to maintain the flame. Let’s face it, those fire starters don’t light easily, but a Zippo lighter can easily light them up. Go get one before camping season starts this year, I know a great place to get one. Mine even has my personalized name on it.
