Add luxury to your kitchen

As a South Florida general contractor, I tend to meet with a large number of South Florida homeowners. At these gatherings, kitchens are always a hot topic. Most homeowners are looking for ways to add luxury to this essential room. Sure, you can go ahead and lay out the funds to dismantle and renovate the entire kitchen; but for many homeowners that’s simply not a possibility. If you don’t have the time or budget to tackle an entire kitchen remodeling project, try one of these 10 ways.

1. Cabinets

Custom cabinets are beautiful and a great addition to any home. Get a custom look by using panel inserts. These inserts can be made of almost any material (glass, wood, acrylic, laminate, etc.). This is a simple addition that can be installed by removing your current door panels and replacing or refinishing the existing panel. To really kick things up a notch, add crown molding above the upper cabinets and why not add some soft-closing hinges so doors and drawers close effortlessly.

2. Lighting

That single incandescent light bulb hanging on that old-fashioned frosted globe will no longer work. This is another area where your imagination is your only limitation. For a sleek, modern look, add lighting above and below the cabinets. Undermount lighting will showcase your backsplash, provide task lighting, and enhance the ambiance of the entire room. Over-the-cabinet lighting will give the room more height, while also adding a custom feel to the space. Throw in a few well-placed pots or a few pendants and you’ve got yourself a “million dollar kitchen” on a shoestring budget.

3. Appliances

Pastel colors are a sign that it’s time to update your appliances. New appliances are not only more efficient and modern; they also offer a host of features that will make your life easier. If new appliances aren’t in your budget, don’t worry, there are very effective ways to “camouflage” your existing appliances so they look up to date. Using stainless steel, natural wood, or a veneer to match the cabinet can give a high-end look for a fraction of the price and provide that elegant look many homeowners seek.

4. Roof

Spruce up this often-forgotten area of your kitchen by adding thermoplastic panels or natural wood beams. Rolling your eyes to the ceiling will make your space feel grand and these accents are relatively inexpensive and can often be installed in just a day. Even a simple paint job can give your ceilings an air of luxury!

5. Underfloor heating

Warming the cold floors of your beloved kitchen will not be something that everyone can see. But there’s nothing more luxurious than jumping out of bed late at night and stumbling into the kitchen to get that midnight snack without the shock of an icy floor keeping you awake until the sun comes up. Radiant heat or electricity can be used to get the desired effect, just make sure your installer knows how to heat only the areas where there will be foot traffic (your cabinet bottoms don’t particularly care about floor temperature).

6. Electronics

These items are the luxury you see. Undermount TVs, wall panel speakers, portable accessory docking stations. All this will make your kitchen a more sophisticated and luxurious place. These modern electrical devices are ingrained in every facet of our lives; Why not take them to the kitchen? Besides, don’t we all end up entertaining ourselves in the kitchen anyway?

7. Walls

Don’t settle for bare drywall with a splash of color. Kick things up a notch with beadboard, wainscoting, stainless steel paneling, brick siding, or stone paneling. Any of the wallcoverings will offer texture, color and a sense of sophistication to the soft walls of the kitchen. Many wallcoverings can be bonded with a construction adhesive or contact cement, meaning installation is quick and user-friendly.

8. splash guard

Use that area between the upper and lower cabinets to express yourself and add a little “WOW” to your kitchen. This has become an area that offers limitless possibilities. Choose from porcelain, ceramic, stainless steel, plate glass, mosaic tile, glass tile, leather, copper, fabric, or just about anything else that will stick to a wall. Installation can often be completed anywhere from one day to over a weekend. Use contrasting colors, textures and finishes to really make your dashboard stand out.

9. Islands

Time to talk about the item that will completely change the way you not only use but also the way you look at your kitchen from this day on. Let’s talk about adding or upgrading a kitchen island. This real estate has been the cause of many kitchen renovations over the years, and often adding one requires changing the format of the kitchen itself. You can add storage, seating, appliance space, counter space, just about anything you want, even an extra sink. Many clients have chosen to go with a kitchen that is open to seating on the opposite side and a bar and stools for guests or children. This option is ideal for those who need an all-in-one island to not only add a luxurious touch but also some features.

10. Countertops

Natural stone countertops have found their way into many homes over the years. There are now a wide variety of natural and man-made products on the market that can really give your kitchen a work surface that screams luxury. Uplit Onyx is one of our personal favorites. When opting for new countertops, make sure your base cabinets can support the weight of the new cabinets you’re interested in installing. Make sure the base cabinets are anchored to the floor and wall properly and the tops are pryable. You don’t want to invest in meters that will last forever if they break a few years later due to installation errors.

there you go Take these 10 shapes and go crazy. Remember that when you go to sell your kitchen, it will be one of the main things that takes your house off the market and hires you. If selling isn’t in your future, think about all the time you spend in your kitchen and how each of the 10 ways you could make that time more enjoyable.
